How Often Should I See a Chiropractor?
Posted July 28, 2017
If you are new to chiropractic care, you may be wondering how often you should visit the chiropractor. Of course, there is a lot that goes into answering this question, including your health condition, lifestyle, and your wellness goals. But seeing a chiropractor is not something you do just when you feel pain; chiropractic care encourages optimal health and living. Here’s our recommendations for those just starting with chiropractic.
The Initial Examination
Before you start receiving chiropractic treatments, you will receive an initial examination from one of our doctors. This exam includes a spinal screening, which measures how your spine’s muscles are functioning. Developed by NASA, this exam can determine muscle tension around subluxations in your spine
After the exam, we will create a customized chiropractic treatment plan based on your screening. This plan targets areas of concern in your musculoskeletal system, which could include pain, limited mobility, or even health issues.
For acute pain, the rule of thumb is the more treatments you receive, the faster you will heal. Usually, our recommendation for acute care is to schedule appointments 3 times a week for a couple weeks, then adjusting the schedule as you heal. Of course, we will work with you and your schedule and can modify our treatment plans accordingly.
Chronic Pain
If you suffer from chronic pain – whether migraines, fibromyalgia, or carpal tunnel – chiropractic can provide long term care to manage, reduce, and even eliminate the pain. These treatment plans can last for months, but they provide pain relief and improved motion & comfort – all without the use of medicine or surgery.
Maintenance Care
You may be used to visiting a doctor annually for a wellness checkup, and visiting your dentist twice a year for a dental checkup. The same should be done for your spine. We recommend you get on a maintenance schedule, with visits every 4-5 weeks to maintain your overall health long term. Of course, if you experience acute issues like an injury you can add an appointment to treat the issue. But for the long-term health of your spine, it is best for you to have regular chiropractic appointments, just like your regular oral cleanings at the dentist.
Additional Care
Of course, at Family Chiropractic we offer additional services to help you improve your overall quality of health. These include therapeutic massage, nutrition counseling, and free educational workshops. Our team is passionate about helping you achieve optimal health!
